Elaeagnus x ebbingei 'Compacta' is a denser, more compact variety of the well-known vigorous, hardy screening evergreen with the same dark green or sea-green foliage, silvery below. Tiny, deliciously scented creamy-white flowers open in autumn. An excellent shelter plant for coastal areas. Also makes a good hedge. 3ltr pot 50cm

Height and spread in 10 years around 2.5m by 2m (8ft x 6.5ft).
Thrives in any well-drained fertile soil, tolerating dry conditions, in sun or partial shade. Plant 45cm (18in) apart for a hedge. Trim in June and again in September if necessary.
